Te Koha Orchard is a family run organic apple orchard.
We are situated between Hastings and Havelock North in Hawkes Bay, on the sun-drenched East coast of the North Island, New Zealand.
The orchard consists of 36 acres/14 Ha of fully certified organic land. We have five main varieties of apples; Royal Gala, Braeburn, Fuji, Granny Smith and Red Delicious, and about ten more that we are looking at that are disease resistant or older European varieties. We also have two acres of feijoas, a tasty sub-tropical fruit, and an assortment of sheep, chickens, children and one incredibly tolerant dog named Bob.

The orchard gets autumn applications of bio-dynamic preparations and we also apply seaweeds and composts to the soil. There are many trees and shrubs native to New Zealand planted to provide shade and shelter for the animals and staff, and a habitat for insects and birds. The orchard understorey is full of plants that have grown naturally and also that have been planted for beneficial reasons: for example this year chicory and comfrey have been used to aid drainage in certain parts of the orchard.
All our practices are guided by a belief that improving our soil health will lead to healthy trees and healthy trees lead to great tasting healthy food.
